How do I measure for compression stockings?
Measure in the morning when swelling is minimal. You'll need: Ankle circumference (narrowest point above ankle bone), Calf circumference (widest part of calf), and Leg length (floor to knee or thigh). Use our sizing calculator above for accurate recommendations.
What's the difference between mmHg ratings?
mmHg (millimetres of mercury) measures compression strength. 15-20 mmHg is light support for travel and tired legs. 20-30 mmHg is medical grade for varicose veins and post-surgery. 30-40 mmHg is clinical grade for severe conditions. Higher numbers = stronger compression.
Knee high vs thigh high — which should I choose?
Knee high (below knee) is the most popular choice — easier to wear and sufficient for most conditions affecting the lower leg. Thigh high provides coverage for conditions affecting the entire leg or post-surgery. All our thigh-highs include silicone grip bands to stay in place.
What length option should I choose?
Length options vary by brand: Sigvaris offers Short, Normal, Long. Juzo offers Extra Short, Short, Normal. JOBST has standard length only. Measure your leg length and use our calculator to find the right option. When in doubt, choose the longer length — it's easier to fold down than to stretch a short stocking.
Open toe or closed toe?
Closed toe provides full coverage and a cleaner look under shoes. Open toe allows toes to breathe, makes it easier to check circulation, and is ideal for warmer weather or if you have longer toes. Both provide identical compression.
How long do compression stockings last?
With daily wear and proper care, compression stockings typically last 3-6 months. Signs it's time to replace: loss of elasticity, sagging, difficulty staying up, or visible wear. We recommend having 2-3 pairs to rotate and extend their lifespan.
Can I convert my size from another brand?
Yes! Use our "I Know My Brand" feature above. Select your current brand and size, and we'll show you equivalent sizes across Sigvaris, JOBST, Juzo, Medi, Bauerfeind, and Venosan. Note that sizing varies between brands, so always verify with your measurements.
